Today's internet users are demanding fast and reliable connections. For people and businesses who use a lot of bandwidth, a high speed satellite internet connection may definitely be a solution. Also, this type of internet connection is perfect as a solution for those who live in remote or rural areas, or those who are seafaring, where a standard DSL or cable internet connection is simply not plausible, feasible or even possible.

In order to qualify for a high speed satellite internet connection, you will need a PC or Mac-based computer that has an ethernet port or an ethernet adapter. Additionally, you will need to be situated in an area where you have an unobstructed view of the southern sky. This is where the satellite will point towards, in order to complete the internet connection between you and the dish that broadcasts it.

So, how does high speed satellite internet work? Well, a small satellite dish is mounted on the exterior of your house, or your place of business. High speed data is then transferred to that dish and through the broadband modem that your computer or home network is connected to.

You should be aware of the fact that there are two types of high speed satellite internet -- one-way and two-way. In the case of a one-way connection, the satellite that is hooked up to your modem can receive downstream/downloaded data, but it cannot send upstream/uploaded data. This means that you will still need to have a dial-up or other type of internet connection in order to send requests over the internet, or to be able to upload files.

Or, you can simply use two-way high speed satellite internet. In this case, the special dish and modem that you have will be able to easily and reliably handle and process both uploads and downloads, so you will not need an alternative connection. Needless to say, if your provider offers it, then two-way high speed sate

High speed satellite internet has become more affordable than ever. It used to be that a simple cable or broadband connection would cost several hundred dollars a month. Now we can all attest to the fact that a standard cable connection costs less than fifty dollars per month. Likewise, the cost of having satellite internet in your home has definitely decreased over the years. Of course, high speed satellite internet is still more expensive than your typical internet connection, but this is because of the hardware, software and technology involved. Overall, it is still a very affordable solution.
